Record neuronal activity in the brainstem, especially the lateral habenula (LHb), while the subject (monkey) performs behavioral tasks that involve emotion-related processing. Publish papers on these and other data concerning the lateral habenula, and other brainstem areas. In studying these areas, apply innovative new optogenetic methods. In addition to these research duties, will attend scientific seminars and present their data. Combined with participation in scientific meetings in the LSR and elsewhere, will provide opportunities for discussion and networking with other researchers to open up new avenues of research consistent with the scientific mission of the NEI.
