Job Description:

Roles & Responsibilities: Job Summary: The Patient Care Technician is responsible for assisting registered professional nurses, in the care of the patient.

Essential Generic Job Functions :

1. Welcomes patients and checks for proper identification bracelets.
2. Prepares the patient for assessment/admission, physical examination and procedures.
3. Draws intravenous or capillary blood from newborn through geriatric aged patients using proper aseptic collection techniques, assure appropriate labeling and processing of specimens to expedite through put of patients.
4. Performs EKG for patients as directed.
5. Assures the presence, functionality and cleanliness of all necessary equipment.
6. Assists in the transport of patient to departments or units upon request.
7. Assists with preparation as necessary assuring the patient is assisted with meals/ or fed as needed. 8. Checks inventory of assigned area and restocks as directed.
9. Ensures room environment is prepared for admission.
10. Provides direct hygiene and comfort care to patients including bathing, toileting, oral hygiene, incontinent care, and bed making.
11. Takes vital signs on admission under the direction of the RN, and documents accordingly, and notifies the RN of results, assists with admission as appropriate inclusive of checking of patient ID bands.
12. Performs and documents glucose finger sticks and collects other specimens as directed.
13. Obtains and documents daily patient weights and observes and documents patients intake and output.
14. Provides a safe patient environment by answering call lights promptly, communicating with the RN immediately for any change in the patients condition.
15. Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific

Education Requirement:
Knowledge, Education and Skills Required:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
BLS-aha Required.
Minimum 1 year of (recent) prior PCT experience in an Acute Care Facility (prior ED experience preferred)
Must have strong (verifiable) competency in the following areas:
Phlebotomy (certification preferred but not required)
EKG (certification preferred but not required)
Vitals
Glucometer
Checking blood sugar
Must have proven track record of reliability with patient care and attendance. Must have experience to keep pace with high volume and fast pace environment.
Prior Epic experience preferred but not reuired (will be Epic trained)



Schedule Notes: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM (5x8 for 40 hours weekly) Every Other Weekend Required. Holidays- As Needed. No on Call. BLS-aha Required. Minimum 1 year of (recent) prior PCT experience in an Acute Care Facility (prior ED experience preferred) Must have strong (verifiable) competency in the following areas: - Phlebotomy (certification preferred but not required). - EKG (certification preferred but not required). - Vitals. - Glucometer. - Checking blood sugar. Worker will float where needed. Must have proven track record of reliability with patient care and attendance. Must have experience to keep pace with high volume and fast pace environment. Prior Epic experience preferred but not required (will be Epic trained) * high volume of stroke, sepsis and stemi patients. Must be highly reliable and be available to work all days other than those that were pre-disclosed prior to offer. Must not have alternative jobs that would interfere with HMH schedule being a priority.
