Office of Education Director / Scientific Program Manager

 

Overall Position Summary and Objectives The Director of the Office of Education in the Division of Intramural Research (DIR) is responsible for overseeing specialized programs that provide research training for high school students, college students, graduate and medical students, postdoctoral fellows, and clinical fellows.

 

Minimum Education

  • Ph.D. required
  • Previous NIH experience a Huge Plus!

  1. Knowledge of NIH grants and funding mechanism

 

Software

  • Demonstrates expertise with Microsoft MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)

 

 

STATEMENT OF WORK DETAILS

 

Develops and assists staff implement policies and procedures related to the organization's scientific programs.

 

  • Ensures that all training programs reflect the principles of workforce diversity in their management and operation in such areas as recruitment and staff, employee development, staff assignments, and communications.

 

  • The Director is responsible for furthering equal employment opportunity by demonstrating fairness in making hiring selections, and encouraging and recognizing employee achievements, fair treatment of employees, and sensitivity to the developmental needs of all employees, including minority groups, women and people with disabilities. The Director is also responsible for providing reasonable accommodations needed to best utilize qualified people with disabilities.

 

  • Supervising program staff within the Office of Education who are responsible for administrative tasks such as: scheduling entrance/exit interviews of all Postdoctoral fellows, gathering and filing progress reports of all fellows, contributing to the production of the fellows monthly newsletter.

 

  • Mentor fellows and support staff with skill, and guide persons under their supervision in their career development.

 

Collects, analyzes and creates scientific program information.

 

  • Establishes and maintains active communications with the Institute's extramural program and its program staff involved with training issues; collaborating with extramural staff to ensure DIR trainees' awareness of funding opportunities and the extramural funding environment.

 

Coordinates workshops and reports their outcomes.
