Job Purpose

Under the direction of Supervisors or Lead Technicians assembles fabricates installs inspects maintains or repairs mechanical structures systems and components in accordance with procedures drawings vendor manuals or other instructional media provided by the project team

CORE DUTIES

Complete assigned Mechanical Technician tasks under direction of Supervisors or Lead Technicians including
Successfully complete required orientation and training
Participate in procedure walkthroughs and prejob briefings
Work area setup and job staging
Assemble fabricate install inspect maintain or repair mechanical structures systems and components in accordance with procedures drawings vendor manuals or other instructional media
Serve as Confined Space and Test Cell attendants
Perform firewatch duties
Work area housekeeping during task execution
Manual material handling within established guidelines
Work area cleanup and demobilization at task completion
Participate in postjob briefings

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

High School diploma minimum
5 years related experience in fabricationmachine shop energy industry or DOE research laboratory
10 years without trade school experience in fabricationmachine shop energy industry or Department of Energy research laboratory

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Mechanical Technician must possess
Basic math skills
Ability to work under highly disciplined controls and a stringent safety environment
General knowledgeexperience with shop or construction safetysafe work practices
Knowledgeable in the use of the various types of hand and power tools associated with industrial construction and maintenance
Ability to closely follow oral and written work instructions and rules and effectively communicate with supervisor and assigned work crew and effectively communicate with supervisor and assigned work crew

WORKING CONDITIONS

Shift work possible
Work hours Initially from 6am to 230pm with a possible need to cover the second shift 200 to 1030pm
