Duties and Responsibilities:

· Perform clinical testing (in those areas for which current training and/or competency is documented) according to standard operating procedures, related to specimen handling and processing, and test analysis with limited supervision.
· Maintain legible work records; maintains records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
· Adhere to the lab's quality control policies and document all quality control activities.
· Enter findings into the laboratory information systems.
· Follow the laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the lab established acceptable levels of performance.
· Capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical supervisor, clinical consultant, or director.
· Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the lab's established performance specifications.
· Participate, as requested, in the training of new employees.
· Track and, if specifically trained, perform equipment maintenance.
· Perform other related non-clinical assays, as needed.
· Follow instructions from supervisors.
· Perform all job duties in a manner consistent with, laboratory, CLIA and local regulations.
· Maintain good communication with leadership, team members and customers.
· Follow safety, security, and the environment in all aspect of the daily activities and report any potential safety hazards to supervisors; address them immediately if possible.
· Understand ergonomic relationship between people, equipment and working environment.
· Other duties as assigned.

o BS, MS, or PhD with a degree in chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory technology OR
o Associate Degree in laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology OR
o High School diploma prior to April 25, 1995 AND either:
§ Graduate of MLT or CLT program or
§ Hold a US military Medical Lab Specialist Certification
· Be detail oriented, organized, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Good, accurate computer skills.
· Able to work effectively and able to deliver on tight datelines

Recommended Qualifications:
· Licensed in California as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS), Preferred
· Certification by ASCP, ASCPi, AAB, AMT or MHE, Preferred
· Previous experience in microbiology and virology molecular testing methods, preferred

Working Conditions:
· Clinical Public Health Laboratory environment; exposure to blood borne pathogens; must wear personal protective equipment including lab coat, gloves and completely closed footwear.
· Employee may be requested to work shifts other than daylight depending on the needs of the laboratory.
· Weekend rotation may be required.
· Travel is not required.

Physical Requirements:
· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use a keyboard, type, and occasionally stand and move to other parts of the lab.
· Must have manual dexterity to use lab equipment.
· Reach above/below the shoulder, bend at the knees and waist.
· Able to lift boxes up to 25 pounds
